Updates

How Cliqer v3 updates on macOS and Windows (checked daily, signed installers only), and how your licence decides which versions you can run.

Cliqer for Mac updates itself.

WhereWhat it does
Cliqer > Check for Updates...Checks right now.
Settings > Updates > VersionShows the version and build, for example 3.0.0.
Check for updates automaticallyCliqer checks for a new version about once a day. On by default.
Download updates automaticallyDownloads a new version without asking. Needs the setting above. Off until you turn it on.
Beta updatesAlso offers test releases before everyone gets them (caption: "Offer test releases before everyone gets them."). Off until you turn it on.
Last checkedThe date and time of the last check, or Never.
Check NowChecks right now. Greyed out while a check or install is running.

Cliqer only installs an update that carries Cliqer's signature. Anything else is ignored.

The daily check runs only while your room is quiet (see Updates never interrupt a show). Check Now always runs when you press it.

If the Updates pane says "Updates are not set up in this build", you are running a build that cannot update itself. Download the current version from cliqer.io/download.

Your licence and versions

Your licence decides which versions of Cliqer you may run. Cliqer only offers updates that your licence covers. If you run a version your licence does not cover you see:

WhereMessage
BothUpdate Required: "This licence does not cover this version of Cliqer. Update Cliqer or renew the licence." with Update
BothLicence Expired: "This licence has expired. Get a plan or continue with the free plan." with Renew (a lapsed key only), Get a Plan and Continue With the Free Plan
BothLicence No Longer Active: "This licence is no longer active. Get a plan or continue with the free plan." with Get a Plan and Continue With the Free Plan
BothCliqer Is Out (or A New Cliqer Is Out): "Your licence includes every version up to , and you can keep it forever. Subscribe to get the newest features." with See What Is New. Shown once per run, for a licence key whose newest version is older than the latest release.

To fix it, install a version your licence covers, or renew the licence. See Sign in.

Release channel and quiet rule

Cliqer v3 offers published releases only. Turn on Beta updates under Settings > Updates to also get test releases (GitHub pre-releases) before everyone does. It is a host setting, off by default, on both macOS and Windows.

Updates never interrupt a show

Cliqer offers or starts an update only while your room is quiet: nobody presenting, no caller, no live share and no go-live broadcast for five minutes after the room was last busy, or five seconds after launch if it was never busy. Signed out there is no room, so it counts as quiet. On macOS the scheduled check waits for that; on Windows the Cliqer update available dialog waits for it.
