Redundancy

Pair a backup computer that stays ready to take over, keep its show media in step, and split one canvas across several render machines.

Redundancy pairs two or more computers running Studio. One computer is the Main and runs the show. A Backup follows it and takes over if the Main stops. The same pairing lets you split one canvas across several render machines. Pairing is in Settings > Advanced > Redundancy.

Windows: Redundancy works the same way on Windows, with the same tab and wording. Where Windows differs, a Windows note says so. See Windows and macOS.

A feature that your plan does not include is not available. See Plans and limits.

Pair two computers

Open Settings > Advanced > Redundancy on both computers. Each computer shows a Pairing code. Type the code of one computer on the other to pair them.

There are two ways to reach the other computer:

  • Computers on this network lists the other Studio computers it finds. Type the code shown on that computer in the Code field and choose Pair. If none is found, the list reads No other Cliqer Studio found.
  • Pair by address pairs a computer that is not listed, for example on another network. Set a Listen port on this computer, type the other computer's Address as ip:port (for example 192.168.1.20:port), type its code and choose Pair.

Main and Backup

This computer shows the role of the computer and its state. Main runs the show. Backup follows it and takes over if it stops.

SettingWhat it does
Take over automaticallyThe Backup goes on air when the Main stops answering.
Linked or Not linkedWhether the other computer is answering.
Round tripHow long a message to the other computer takes, in milliseconds.
Media syncedHow much of the show's media has reached the other computer, shown as have of total.
UnpairBoth computers run on their own again. Studio asks you to confirm first.

To stand by again after Unpair, pair the computers with a new code.

Render machines

A render machine draws part of your canvas, so one show can drive outputs on several computers. Render machines are the computers you paired in Settings > Advanced > Redundancy.

  1. Pair each computer you want to use.
  2. In the screens panel, select a region of your canvas.
  3. In the region's inspector, choose a computer in Renders On.

Renders On lists This Computer and each paired computer, with Linked or Not linked next to its name. A computer that is discovered but not paired is not listed. The setting is described as the computer that draws this region, on the same frame as the others. Renders On appears only when your plan includes Render machines.

The Main draws every region that no other computer owns. A render machine draws only the regions it owns. If a render machine stops answering, only its regions go black and Studio shows the notice "A render machine of a split canvas stopped answering; its regions show black." The Main keeps running as the Main.

Windows and macOS

Redundancy uses the same tab, rows and wording on both platforms.

The status bar shows a badge for the pairing. Its menu has Take Over, which makes this computer the Main, and Hand Back, which gives the show back to the other computer.
