Drawing Overlay
When you share a display, Cliqer lays a see-through layer over it. Presenters use it to point with a laser dot and to draw over your slides. You see their dots and ink on top of your presentation as it happens.
What you see
The overlay covers each display you are sharing, whole screen, and sits above your slideshow, including full-screen apps and other Spaces. It never takes focus and every click passes through to the app underneath, so you keep presenting as normal.
- Laser dots. A coloured dot with a soft glow for each presenter who is pointing. It appears while they press on the picture and fades in and out in about a third of a second.
- Ink. Whatever presenters draw, in their chosen brush, colour and width.
- Sharing indicator. When Sharing Border is on, a red border with four corner accents around the display, and a SHARING badge at the top left whose dot pulses slowly (it stays still when Reduce Motion is on). It tells you which display is live. It shows only on displays you are sharing, never on the monitor Program shows unless you also share that display.
It opens when you start sharing a display and closes when you stop. It also opens over the monitor the Studio Program shows, while Program goes to the room and the input on air is a screen of this computer. Presenters watching Program then point and draw across the 16:9 Program frame, not the whole monitor. A camera, a caller or an NDI input has no monitor of its own, so it opens nothing, and neither does sharing a single window or an NDI source.
Not in the picture
The overlay is excluded from screen capture, shares, recordings and NDI. You see the dots and ink, and presenters see them in Cliqer Remote or the web presenter, but they are not baked into your shared video or your recording.
How presenters draw
Presenters do this in Cliqer Remote or in the browser.
- Laser. Touch the shared picture and the dot follows the finger. There is no button.
- Draw. When you allow drawing, a Draw button appears. It opens the drawing tools.
- Brushes. Pen, highlighter (see-through, drawn under the other strokes), marker (thick and solid) and fading pen (it fades out about three seconds after the stroke ends).
- Shapes. Freehand, line, rectangle, ellipse and arrow.
- Width and colour. Three widths per brush and eight colours. The first colour is the presenter's own laser colour, which Cliqer assigns from a set of eight so that every pointer in the room looks different.
- Clear. A presenter can clear their own ink. Stop drawing ends it.
Cliqer keeps at most 200 strokes per display and drops the oldest first.
Host controls
| Where | Control | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Settings, Control | Laser Pointer | The master switch. Footer: "Presenters can point and draw on your shared screen." |
| Presenter row | Draw and laser icon | Switches one presenter's pen and laser on or off. Lit unless you took it away. See Presenters and chat. |
| Settings, General (macOS) or Control (Windows) | Presenter drawings, Clear Now (Windows: Clear drawings, Clear) | Removes every presenter's drawing. |
| Settings, Sharing | Sharing Border | "Show a red border on the host screen while sharing". On by default on macOS, off by default on Windows. It controls only the red indicator; the laser dots and ink show either way. |
| External Control | Laser, Clear drawings, Share stop | The same actions on a key. |
Ink that is cleared, undone or expired is removed from your overlay at the same time.
If you do not see it
- You are not sharing a display. Start one from the Share window.
- Laser Pointer is off in Settings, Control, or the presenter's Draw and laser icon is off.
