Licences and Devices

Find and copy your licence key, see which devices use a seat, release a device from the website or the app, and buy seats or updates.

My Licences (cliqer.io/dash/my-licenses) lists every licence key on your account. Each licence has a card showing its status, key, device seats, software updates and renewal date.

Copy your licence key

  1. Open My Licences in the dashboard menu.
  2. Find the licence card. The key is printed under the product name.
  3. Click the copy button next to the key. Cliqer confirms with Licence key copied.
  4. Paste it into the Licence key field in the Cliqer app.

If you have many licences, use Find a licence or key. Revoked licences are hidden until you click Show revoked.

A new licence appears here after payment. If you have none, the page says Your first licence starts here and offers Choose a plan.

How seats work

A seat is one computer signed in to Cliqer with your key or account. The seat count is how many devices can use the licence at the same time.

  • Signing in takes a seat. A computer that already has a seat just keeps it.
  • Signing out gives it back. Signing out of the Cliqer app (the log-out button in the title bar of the app window) releases that computer's seat straight away.
  • Full licence. When every seat is taken, a new computer is refused until a seat is freed.
  • Forgotten seats free themselves. If a computer crashed, was force-quit or went offline without signing out, its seat is not freed at once. When another computer needs a seat and the licence is full, a seat that has not been seen for more than 25 hours is released and given to the new computer. One seat is reclaimed per sign-in attempt.
  • Fewer seats than devices. If a licence's seat count is lowered, devices over the new limit are released the next time a device signs in, least recently seen first.

Release a device from the website

Use this when you changed computer, sold a laptop, or the key is at its limit.

  1. Open My Licences.
  2. On the licence, click Manage devices. The Devices on this key window lists every device that holds a seat, with its name, version, platform and when it was last seen.
  3. Click Release next to a device. Cliqer confirms with Device released.
  4. To free every seat on the key at once, click Release all (it shows when more than one device holds a seat). Cliqer confirms with All devices released.

The seat is freed straight away, so another computer can sign in.

What happens to the app on the released computer

Releasing frees the seat. It does not close the app that is running on that computer, even though the window says releasing a device signs it out.

  • Last seat on the key. If you release the only seat that was in use, any running session on that key is ended at once.
  • Other seats still in use. The app on the released computer is not stopped. It carries on until it next checks in with Cliqer. The app checks its seat when it is opened, and at most once every 24 hours.
  • At that check, if a seat is free the computer takes a seat again without you signing in. If the key is full, the check is refused with the device limit answer, and the app does not sign itself out.

So release the device and also quit Cliqer on that computer, or sign out of it first. If you no longer have the computer, release it from the website and it stops holding a seat.

You must be signed in to the account that owns the licence.

Release a device from the Cliqer app

  • On the computer itself: sign out of the app. This frees that computer's seat.
  • When the licence is at its limit: if you sign in with a licence key and every seat is taken, the app says so and shows Change licence or press here to deactivate all other devices. Press it to free every seat on the key, and the app then signs you in.
  • Owner only. Releasing other devices needs the account that owns the licence. If you are not signed in as the owner, the app asks you to Sign in with the account that owns this key to free up a device, then finishes the release for you. Members of the team that owns a licence can do this too.
  • Signing in with your account at the limit shows All seats for your licence are in use. Sign out on another device first. Sign out on another computer, or release it from Manage devices.
  • Key not linked to an account. A key that belongs to no account and no team cannot be released from the website, and the app's release button only works for the account that owns the key. If you press Change licence or press here to deactivate all other devices, the app tries to release the other devices and then shows the same device limit message again, because nothing was freed. Only our support team can release the other devices on such a key: contact us and quote the key. There is no button in the dashboard or the app that links a key to your account, so ask support if you want it linked.

Devices that are not listed

Manage devices lists computers running Cliqer version 2 or later. A computer running the older Cliqer v1.9.7 desktop app never appears in that list, and the Device seats count on the card does not include it (it can read 0 / N while v1.9.7 is in use).

A v1.9.7 computer still counts against your key while it is hosting: it uses a seat while it is open and connected as a host, and gives it back when it closes. If every seat is in use by computers that are hosting, another computer is refused when it tries to host. There is nothing to release from the website for a v1.9.7 computer: close the app on it.

Software updates and version limits

Subscription plans always run the latest version. A perpetual (one-off) key never expires, but it runs only the releases published inside its updates window. Up to v... on the card shows the newest version the key runs.

  • On a perpetual key, Renew updates adds 12 more months of updates. See Billing, invoices and renewals.
  • The app shows Renew updates to unlock this version when it is too new for the key. The Download page offers the newest version your key allows.

Buying seats, plans and new licences

Buttons on a licence card change with the licence, so you only see what applies:

ButtonWhen it shows
Add seatsAn active subscription you can change here. Adds seats to the same key
Change planAn active subscription you can change here
Renew licenceAn expired subscription whose plan can be bought again. Keeps the same key
Renew updatesAn active perpetual key that stops at a version
Add seats or upgradeA Pro Lifetime key with no subscription. Add seats or upgrade features while the paid period runs
Request more seatsActive keys that cannot add seats online, such as Enterprise. Opens the contact form
Choose a new planAn expired key with no plan, or an ended Free trial
Manage billingA subscription managed on the Billing page
Contact supportA suspended or revoked key, or an expired key that cannot be renewed here

To add a separate licence with its own key and subscription, click Buy a new licence at the top right. Choose the Plan, Billing period and Seats, then Continue to checkout. To add seats to a key you already have, use Add seats on that key instead. Checkout takes card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal. See Pricing for prices.

Resume or discard an unpaid checkout

If you start Add seats or upgrade on a Pro Lifetime key and the payment is never completed, the licence card shows two more buttons:

  • Resume checkout: opens the checkout again for that key, with the plan, billing period and seats you chose before.
  • Discard unpaid checkout: cancels that unpaid attempt. Cliqer confirms with Unpaid checkout discarded.

Discarding only works on a checkout that has not been paid. If the payment did go through, Cliqer shows Checkout not discarded with the reason. Refresh My Licences, or contact support if the upgrade does not appear.

Team licences

My Licences lists the licences registered to your own account. A licence that belongs to a team is not listed for the team's members. See Team licences and members.
