Outputs
Program is what Studio puts on air. Outputs are the ways Program leaves Studio. Each one has its own switch, its own settings and its own status, so you can run any mix of them at the same time.

Where the controls are
- Toolbar lamps in the middle of the Studio toolbar:
REC,STREAM,EXT,ROOMandNDI, then a Display menu. Click a lamp to start or stop that output. The tooltips read Record, Stream, Virtual camera, Program to the room and Program as NDI, followed by the key you bound to it, if any. Right-click theNDIlamp for Set Up Outputs.... - Outputs button on the right of the toolbar, or Studio, Outputs...: opens the Outputs window.
- Bottom bar of the Studio window, in groups you can move and close (see Multiview and layouts):
- Record, Stream and External: the keys Record, Stream and External, with a recording clock beside Record.
- Replay: the keys Replay, In, Out, Save and Play, see Replay. It is not in the default Classic layout; add it from Panels.
- MultiCorder and Multiview: the MultiCorder key with its own clock, and the Multiview key.
- PlayList, Room and NDI: PlayList, Room and NDI.
- Overlays and Tools: Overlays, the audio mixer key, the snapshot key and the lock key.
- Settings cogs next to each output key. They are hidden when the Studio window is narrower than 1420 points; right-click an output key to open the same settings.
- Top bar lamps:
STREAM,REC,EXT,ROOMandNDI. The tooltips read Stream, Record, External output, Send Program to the room and Program as NDI. - Outputs button in the top bar (tooltip Outputs and video router): opens the Outputs window.
- Outputs bar at the bottom of the Studio window: Add Input, then Record, External, Stream, MultiCorder, PlayList, Room and NDI, each output with a cog beside it for its settings.
- Tools bar: Overlay, List view, Audio levels on tiles, Multiview panel, Snapshot of Program and the lock.
- Replay panel: open it from Panels, see Replay.
Outputs at a glance
| Output | What leaves Studio | Studio plan feature it needs | macOS | Windows |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Room | Program, or one input, to everyone in the room | none in the app (the server caps how many shares the room carries, see Plans and limits) | Sì | Sì |
| NDI | Program as the Cliqer Program source, plus any input as its own source | NDI output | Sì | Sì |
| Record | Program to one MP4 or MOV file | Studio recording; HEVC, and ProRes on macOS only, need Studio ProRes and HEVC | Sì | Sì |
| Stream | Program to one or more RTMP, RTMPS or SRT destinations | Studio streaming; HEVC needs Studio ProRes and HEVC | Sì | Sì |
| External | Program as a camera other apps can pick | Studio virtual camera | Sì | Sì |
| Display | Any source, or slices of several, full screen on a display | none of its own (Multiview needs Studio multiview output) | Sì | Sì |
| Virtual Output | Nothing: a picture other outputs, canvas regions and Multiview tiles can show | none | Sì | Sì |
| Syphon or Spout | A named video source that other apps on this computer can pick | Syphon and Spout outputs | Syphon | Spout |
| Blackmagic | An output on a Blackmagic capture card | Blackmagic outputs | Sì | Sì |
| MultiCorder | Every chosen input, and Program if you like, each to its own file | Studio ISO recording | Sì | Sì |
| Snapshot | The current Program frame as a PNG | none | Sì | Sì |
| PlayList | Not an output: takes a list of inputs to Program in turn | none | Sì | Sì |
A plan that does not include an output refuses to start it and shows the plan notice described in Plans and limits. Stopping an output is never refused.

Status of an output
Every output reports one of five states and shows a dot with the word, never a colour alone.
| Status | Meaning | Dot (macOS) |
|---|---|---|
| Off | Not running. | Grey |
| Starting... | Connecting, or waiting for the first frame. | Orange |
| Live | Running. | Red |
| Reconnecting... | A stream's connection dropped. The destination stays on and connects again, waiting 1 second at first and up to 30 seconds. The reason appears under the status. | Orange |
| Stopped | It stopped on its own. The reason appears under the status. | Orange |
Clocks show hours, minutes and seconds (00:12:45). An output that is not running shows --:--:--.
On macOS, when an output fails or is refused you get an alert titled after what failed, for example Recording Failed, Stream to
Room
Send the Program, or a single input, to everyone in the room. Presenters and viewers see it in their browser or in Cliqer Remote.
- Program to the room: the ROOM lamp, or the Room key.
- One input to the room: the input's menu item To Room on macOS, Show to the room on Windows.
- What the room hears: the audio bus the room receives.
- Resolution and Quality: the size and bitrate of the picture the room receives.
- Frame rate: shown, not set here.
Click the cog beside Room (or right-click the Room key) for a menu with the toggle Program to Room and the submenu Room Hears. Room Hears offers Master, Headphones Mix, Bus A, Bus B and Silence. Bus A and Bus B need the Studio audio buses feature.
Below that, the menu has the output options as sections with a checkmark on the choice in effect. Resolution offers 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 4K and 8K; a size over your plan shows a lock and needs upgrade, and choosing it opens the upgrade notice. Quality lists Automatic, 3.5 Mbps first (the bitrate that suits the size in effect, so it reads 2 Mbps at 720p, 3.5 Mbps at 1080p, 6 Mbps at 1440p and 12 Mbps at 4K and 8K), then fixed steps of 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 20 Mbps. A step equal to the preset is not listed twice. Choosing a new size leaves a fixed step alone; Automatic follows the new size. The line Frame Rate shows the rate the machine runs at (for example 60 fps), and Frame Rate Settings... opens Settings, Video, where it is set. These are the same values as in Settings, so a change in the menu shows there and the other way round. Program and Preview use the same size.
Click the cog beside Room for a menu with Program to Room and The room hears. The room hears offers Master, Headphones, Bus A, Bus B and Nothing. The same choice is in the menu of the Audio Mixer panel, and the Program panel menu also has Program to the room.
Below that, the menu has the output options under the headings Resolution and Quality, with a checkmark on the choice in effect. Resolution offers 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 4K and 8K; a size over your plan is dimmed and says it needs a higher plan. The dimmed line Frame Rate shows the rate the machine runs at (for example 60 fps), and Frame Rate Settings... opens Settings on the Video page, where it is set. These are the same values as in Settings, so a change in the menu shows there and the other way round. Program and Preview use the same size.

NDI
NDI sends video and audio over your network to vMix, OBS and any other NDI receiver. Studio can advertise these sources:
| Source name | What it carries |
|---|---|
Cliqer Program | The Program mix. |
Cliqer <input name> | One input on its own. Parentheses in the name are dropped and the name is cut at 40 characters. |
Cliqer Caller - <name> <last 4 characters of the id> | One person on a video call, see Video calls. |
Cliqer Multiview | The Multiview picture, see Multiview and layouts. |
Cliqer Preview, Cliqer Clean Program, Cliqer Multiview 2 and so on | Any other NDI output you add in the Outputs window, named after its source. You can change the name in the output's setup. |
Cliqer Timer | The timer window, outside Studio. |
Receivers usually show your computer name in front, for example MACHINE (Cliqer Program). See NDI Output for network tips.
- Program: the NDI lamp or the NDI key. Its cog menu has the toggle Program as NDI and Outputs....
- What the NDI output hears: the output's Audio setting in the Outputs window (Off, Follows the source, Master, Headphones mix, Bus A, Bus B).
- One input: NDI Output in the input's menu, or Own NDI output in its inspector.
- These switches are shortcuts: each one is a row in the Outputs window.
- The input menu and the NDI Source list of Add Input link to About NDI® (ndi.video).
- Program: the NDI lamp or the NDI toggle on the Outputs bar (name Program as NDI), or Program NDI output in the Program panel menu. The cog beside NDI opens a menu with Program as NDI and Outputs....

- What the NDI output hears: the output's Audio setting in the Outputs window (Off, Follow the source, Master, Headphones, Bus A, Bus B).
- One input: NDI output in the input menu.
NDI needs the NDI runtime. When Cliqer cannot use it, every NDI control is off and a note beside the controls says why, with an Install NDI Tools link when installing fixes it. The notes read "NDI® is not installed on this computer. Install NDI Tools, then restart Cliqer.", "NDI® has no Windows on Arm version. The x64 Cliqer has NDI and runs on this PC." and "This build of Cliqer has no NDI®.". Windows on Arm has no NDI of its own: install the x64 Cliqer, which runs there. On Windows the NDI output entry is left out of Add output in the Outputs window while NDI cannot run. Quitting Cliqer stops every NDI sender, so OBS and vMix do not freeze on the last frame. On a plan that carries the watermark, the Cliqer Timer source carries the moving watermark too.
Record

Records Program to one file. Video is H.264 unless you choose another codec, and audio is AAC from the Program bus. Files are written in small fragments, so a crash keeps everything up to about the last two seconds.
- Start and stop with the REC lamp, the Record key, or the keys you bound in External Control. The default key is
Command+Ron macOS andCtrl+Ron Windows. - Files are named
Cliqer <date> <time>.mp4(or.mov), for exampleCliqer 2026-10-08 14-30-05.mp4. If the picture size changes during a recording, or the Split files time is reached, it continues in a new file with(2),(3)and so on added to the name.
The Record settings popover:
| Setting | Choices |
|---|---|
| Format | MP4 or MOV |
| Video | 1000 to 100000 kbps in steps of 500. The default is 12000 kbps. |
| Audio | 64 to 320 kbps in steps of 32. The default is 192 kbps. |
| Codec | H.264, HEVC, ProRes 422 or ProRes 422 HQ. Choices your plan lacks carry a lock and "needs an upgrade". ProRes is always written as MOV, at its own bitrate. |
| Split files | Off, or a new file every 5 to 1440 minutes (steps of 5). |
| Portrait canvas (9:16) | Records the portrait canvas instead of the landscape one. It needs the portrait canvas feature. |
| Folder | Shows Movies by default. Choose... picks another folder. Default (Movies) goes back. |
While a recording runs, the popover also shows Status, Time, the File path and Reveal in Finder, and a Start Recording or Stop Recording button. The note "Changes apply to the next recording." appears while recording.
The Record settings cog opens a flyout titled Recording with the status, a Recording format list (MP4, MOV), a Recording video bitrate, kbps box and a folder button that reads Folder: Videos until you choose another folder. Below them are Recording codec (H.264 or HEVC; HEVC is off, with the reason, when the plan lacks it), a box "Start a new file every, minutes (0 is one file)" and the Portrait canvas (9:16) switch. ProRes is not offered on Windows: it records on a Mac only.
Stream
The Stream settings open the Stream window (on Windows, a flyout from the Stream cog). It reads from the top: the Cliqer Live card, your own watch page on cliqer.io, then Also stream to with your other platforms and Add Destination, then Encoder, and last Check destinations ("Test every enabled destination without going live") and Start Stream or Stop Stream.

Streams Program to live platforms over RTMP, RTMPS, SRT or WHIP, and to your own Cliqer Live stream. One encode is shared by the destinations that use the same codec.
- A destination is a name, a server URL and a stream key. Pick your service under Platform and Cliqer fills what it can (see Platforms); paste the stream key from your platform. Custom takes any server address.
- The server URL starts with
rtmp://orrtmps://. For SRT usesrt://host:port(orsrt://:portto wait for a receiver to connect); the stream key is then the SRT passphrase. - For WHIP (WebRTC ingest, a standard many live services and media servers take) the server URL starts with
https://, orhttp://on your own network. The destination takes its kind from the URL. The secret field is then called Bearer token, optional, and it is the token the service gave you. WHIP sends H.264 only, so there is no HEVC, and it has no backup server. Cliqer sends the sound as Opus. See WHIP and simulcast. - A destination can have a Backup server (RTMP and RTMPS only), which "Takes over when the first drops."; the status then says "Sending to the backup server".
- A delay of up to 120 seconds makes every destination send what Program showed that long ago. While you stream, the window says "Changes apply to the next stream."
- Start Stream starts every destination that is switched on at once. Each destination can also be started on its own.
- The stream key is stored in your system's secure storage and is never shown again. Type a new key to replace it.
- The default stream bitrate is 6000 kbps video and 160 kbps audio.
- When a stream to Cliqer Live or RTMP falls behind, the sound keeps going and the picture keeps moving.
- On a plan that carries the mark, every output carries one moving FREE VERSION or TRIAL VERSION mark, added just before the picture leaves Cliqer. ISO recordings and Display outputs carry it too. See The FREE VERSION and TRIAL VERSION mark.
Each destination shows its state: Off, Starting, Live, Reconnecting, Failed, Kept, Scheduled, Ended or Needs a new key.
Stopping while on air asks first. Stop streaming? names what stops ("Viewers see the stream end."), and stopping or removing one destination asks Stop streaming to
Platforms
Platform lists Custom first, then the services below. Under the picker the app shows where the key comes from on that service; click it to open the platform's page on its stream key.
| Platform | What Cliqer fills | Where the key comes from |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube | Nothing: paste the stream URL too | "Open the Live Control Room in YouTube Studio, Stream tab, then copy its stream URL and stream key." |
The server, rtmps://rtmp-api.facebook.com/rtmp/ | "Create the live video on Facebook with streaming software as the source, then copy its stream key." | |
| Twitch | The server | "Copy your stream key from the Twitch Creator Dashboard, Settings, Stream." |
| LinkedIn Live | Nothing: paste the server URL too | "Schedule the event in LinkedIn with a custom stream, then copy its server URL and stream key. Needs live access on your account." |
| X Live | Nothing: paste the server URL too | "Create the broadcast in X Live Studio, then copy its server URL and stream key. Needs live access on your account." |
| Instagram Live | Portrait canvas on | "Start Live Producer on instagram.com, then copy its server URL and stream key. The key is new each time." |
| Amazon Live | Nothing: paste the server URL too | "In the Amazon Live Creator app, set the video source to External camera, then tap Get URL and stream key." |
| TikTok LIVE | Portrait canvas on | "Needs LIVE access on your account. Copy the server URL and stream key from TikTok LIVE Studio. Each LIVE needs a new server URL and stream key." |
| Kick | The server | "Copy your stream key from the Kick creator dashboard, Stream tab." |
Encoder has Video (1000 to 100000 kbps), Audio (64 to 320 kbps) and Delay (Off, or 1 to 120 seconds). The key is stored in the Keychain.
Each destination under Also stream to has:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name | A label. A blank name is stored as "Destination". |
| Stream to | The switch that includes the destination when you press Start Stream. |
| Platform | Custom or a service from Platforms. |
| Server URL | The place to send to. The placeholder changes with the kind the URL names, for example https://example.com/whip/endpoint for WHIP. |
| Stream key | A secure field. It is named for the kind: Stream key (RTMP), Passphrase (SRT) or Bearer token (WHIP). It reads "Stored in the Keychain, type to replace" when one exists. |
| Backup server | Placeholder "Optional rtmp:// or rtmps://". Shown for an RTMP URL only: hidden for SRT and WHIP. |
| Codec | H.264 or HEVC (HEVC needs a plan that includes it). A WHIP destination offers H.264 only. |
| Layers | WHIP and Cliqer Live only. WHIP: 1 layer, 2 layers (100, 50%) or 3 layers (100, 66, 33%). Cliqer Live: Program only, Program + 1 smaller or Program + 2 smaller. See WHIP and simulcast and Cliqer Live. |
| Size | Program size, or 360p, 480p, 540p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p or 2160p. The shorter side of the picture this destination gets. Never larger than Program. |
| Portrait canvas (9:16) | Streams the portrait canvas. It needs the portrait canvas feature. |
| Start Stream / Stop Stream | Runs this destination alone, with its state beside it. |
| Forget Stream key | Removes the stored key. Named for the kind: Forget Passphrase, Forget Bearer token, Forget Publisher token. Shown only when a key is stored. |
| Remove | Deletes the destination. |
Add Destination opens a new row that shows "Not added yet" with Use stream key and Cancel. Use stream key stays off until the URL is filled in ("Type the server address first").
On a Mac, the hardware encoder codes H.264 at up to 2160p. HEVC codes the full Program size, and HEVC above 2160p (8K) runs at up to 30 frames per second. 8K runs without dropped frames, with every Cliqer Live quality running beside it.
The Stream cog opens the flyout. With no other platform added, Also stream to says "No destination yet" and "Add one below.". Each destination shows its name (with the platform beside it when they differ), its state, "no key" when none is stored, a Stream to
Below the list, the destination form has Platform (with Help, which opens the platform's page on its stream key), Name, Server URL, Stream key, Backup server, Codec, Layers (for a WHIP or Cliqer Live destination) and Size: Program size, or 360p, 480p, 540p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p or 2160p. The key is kept in Windows Credential Manager, not in Cliqer's files, and the field then reads "Stored in Windows Credential Manager, type to replace". For a WHIP server (an https:// URL) the key field reads Bearer token, Backup server is hidden and the codec shows H.264. Use stream key adds the destination (Save when you edit one) and stays off until a server is typed. Encoder holds the stream Delay (seconds, 0 for none).
With no destination switched on, pressing Stream (the Stream lamp in the top bar, or the Stream key at the bottom) opens the destinations so you can add or switch one on.
Cliqer Live
Cliqer Live streams Program to your own stream on cliqer.io. It is a destination like the others, but it needs no stream key: Studio signs in with your Cliqer account and gets the server and a fresh permission each time it connects. A typed wss:// server with its Publisher token works the same way.
The Cliqer Live card comes first in the Stream window: "Your own watch page on cliqer.io. Share the link with your viewers." Until you add it, the card holds a Cliqer Live button that adds the destination. Then it shows:
- The destination's state, its Start Stream or Stop Stream, and the watch link. On macOS the link has Copy and Open.
- Stream code, which sets your watch link. The menu lists Your Stream Codes, New Code picks a fresh one and Custom Code… takes 4 to 32 lowercase letters, digits or hyphens. "Changing the code changes the watch link." While you stream it says "Stop streaming first to change the code."
- Cloud recording: "Saves every broadcast to the cloud. Recordings are kept until you delete them." This is the same switch as Record broadcasts in the dashboard (see Recording).
- Open Live Dashboard, which opens Live in your dashboard on cliqer.io.
- Sign in first. Without an account it says "Sign in to stream to Cliqer Live.". A licence key alone is not enough: sign in to the account the stream belongs to.
- Your qualities. Cliqer Live sends Program and smaller copies at 1080p and 720p (those below Program's size), so each viewer gets the one their connection plays smoothly. Pick how many with Layers: Program only, Program + 1 smaller or Program + 2 smaller. The default is Program + 2 smaller. When the connection falls behind, the smaller copies drop first and the sound never does.
- Your plan. A plan without Cliqer Live says "Your plan does not include Cliqer Live." with an Upgrade button.
- One Studio per stream. If another Studio starts on the same Cliqer Live stream, this one stops and says Already Streaming Elsewhere: "Another Studio is already streaming to this Cliqer Live stream. Stop it there, then start again." It does not reconnect by itself, so the two never push each other off.
- A new or opened show. New Show and Open Show stop every Cliqer Live stream, and every other stream, that the new show does not have.
- Undo. Undo and Redo never remove a destination that is on air. They say Still On Air, for example "Undo would take “YouTube” off air. Take it off air first, then try again."
- Account changed. Signing in to another account stops the stream and says "The Cliqer account changed, so streaming to Cliqer Live stopped.".
- Server unreachable. "Cliqer Live cannot be reached right now. The Studio keeps trying." The stream starts once the server answers.
Who can watch
Set these in the dashboard, Live, Player settings, on the Access card. A change applies to viewers already watching: their players reconnect and check again.
- Password. Type 8 to 128 characters and choose Set password. Viewers then see a Password box and a Watch button before the stream plays; a wrong one says "Wrong password.". Change password or Remove it at any time; a change asks everyone watching for the new one. Your own preview in the dashboard keeps playing.
- Allowed sites. Add the sites that may embed your player, as
example.comor*.example.com(any subdomain, not the bare domain), up to 20. With allowed sites set, the player plays only embedded on these sites. The watch link and QR code stop working, and a player embedded anywhere else says "This stream can only be watched on its owner's site.". - Questions. Pick one of your Cliqer Timer rooms. Viewers get an Ask a question button that opens that room's ask page in a new tab, where you moderate the questions as usual. None removes the button.
Recording
Turn on Record broadcasts on the Player settings card (dashboard, Live) and Cliqer Live saves every broadcast to the cloud while you stream. The recording is cut into 5 second parts as it goes, so a broadcast that stops early keeps everything up to that point. Recordings are kept until you delete them. Storage comes out of your credits, a little each day, at the rate shown under Record broadcasts (an hour of 1080p is about 2.7 GB). If your credits run out, we email you, and 30 days later all your stored recordings are deleted. Buying credits before then keeps them all.
Open Recordings in the dashboard (Live) to see every recording with its poster, date, length and captions. On each one:
- Play opens it in the player, on its poster, with sound.
- Click the title to rename it.
- Poster sets the picture shown before play: pause on a frame and use it, or upload a JPEG, PNG or WebP image up to 5 MB. A recording without a poster gets one from 10% of the way in.
- Translate adds captions in more languages after the show. It shows the credits it needs before you confirm.
- The bin deletes it. Tick several and choose Delete to remove them together. A deleted recording and its translations cannot be brought back.
Captions shown during the broadcast are saved with the recording. Statistics also has Play recording on each broadcast; a broadcast that restarted within ten minutes shows one Play part button for each part. The switch applies to the next broadcast, not one already on air.
While a recorded broadcast is on air, viewers can rewind it. They drag the seek bar back to any point since the broadcast started and watch from there, with sound and captions. Pause, then play, carries on from the paused moment instead of jumping ahead. LIVE, or catching up with the newest part, takes them back to the live picture. After a restart, rewinding starts from the restart. A broadcast that is not recorded cannot be rewound.
A password set under Who can watch protects the recordings too: viewers get the same Password box before a recording plays, and a changed password is asked for again.
Send from an encoder
Your Cliqer Live stream also takes a picture from an encoder such as OBS, vMix or ffmpeg, or from a browser, instead of Studio. It is the same stream, with the same watch link and the same player settings.
- In the dashboard, open Live, Player settings, and find the Encoder card.
- Choose Create stream key, then copy the key. Show and the copy button bring it back any time. Cliqer keeps it encrypted, and Reset makes a new one and stops the old one at once.
- Pick your encoder's protocol tab on the card (RTMP, RTMPS, SRT or WHIP). Each tab shows its server URL and where the key goes, with a copy button. Paste both into your encoder. It is the same key for every protocol:
| Protocol | Server URL | Where the stream key goes |
|---|---|---|
| RTMP | rtmp://stream.cliqer.io:1935/live | The stream key field |
| RTMPS | rtmps://stream.cliqer.io:1936/live | The stream key field |
| SRT | srt://stream.cliqer.io:9000?streamid=<key> | In the URL, as the stream ID |
| WHIP | https://stream.cliqer.io/whip | The Bearer token |
Set the encoder up like this:
- Video. H.264 or HEVC over RTMP and RTMPS. H.264 over SRT and WHIP.
- Sound. AAC or Opus over RTMP and RTMPS, AAC over SRT, Opus over WHIP. Opus runs at 48 kHz in 20 ms frames.
- Keyframes. One every 2 seconds.
- One encoder per key. While one encoder is sending, a second one on the same key is refused.
Anything else, for example AV1 or VP9 video, is refused when the encoder connects.
Captions on the Encoder card gives an encoder stream live captions. It is off until you switch it on, and captions spend credits.
Reset, beside the key, makes a new key once you confirm. The old key stops working and an encoder sending on it is stopped, so every encoder then needs the new one. Changing your stream code keeps the key: the encoder sends to the new code. Your plan must include Cliqer Live: once it no longer does, the encoder is refused.
WHIP and simulcast
WHIP sends Program straight to a WebRTC media server or service. Paste its https:// endpoint as the Server URL, and its token in Bearer token if it gives one. Everything else is the same as RTMP: Stream starts it, the status shows beside it, and a lost connection retries by itself.
- It is H.264 video and Opus sound. HEVC is not offered, because WebRTC players do not take it. There is no backup server.
- Cliqer checks the server name and the secure connection when you start, so a wrong address fails at once with a status instead of waiting.
- The bearer token is stored like a stream key, in the Keychain (Windows Credential Manager), and is never shown again. Forget Bearer token removes it.
- WHIP needs the same plan feature as any other destination: Studio streaming (see Plans and limits).
Layers turns on simulcast: Cliqer sends the picture two or three times at once, at smaller sizes and bitrates, and the server hands each viewer the one that fits their connection.
| Choice | Sends |
|---|---|
| 1 layer | The picture at its full size. Default |
| 2 layers (100, 50%) | Full size and half size |
| 3 layers (100, 66, 33%) | Full size, two thirds and one third |
Each extra layer is one more video encode on top of the shared one, so it costs CPU. A server that does not accept simulcast gets the top layer only. Layers is for WHIP and Cliqer Live: it is not shown for RTMP or SRT.
External
External shows Program as a camera in other apps, such as Zoom, Teams or a browser, so you can use the Studio mix as your webcam.
Other apps see the cameras Cliqer Program (the Program) and Cliqer Preview, plus two more, see Virtual camera and microphone. Install the virtual camera once in Settings, General. The popover says so, shows the Status and has Start External and Stop External.
The External toggle and the External settings cog (a flyout headed Virtual camera with the status) are on the Outputs bar. The cameras are registered by the Cliqer installer, see Virtual camera and microphone.
MultiCorder (one file per input)
MultiCorder records every input you choose to its own file, all started on the same instant so the files line up in an editor. Program can have its own file too.
- Files share one name stem,
Cliqer <date> <time>, followed by the input name. - The format and bitrates are shared by every file.
- Choosing an input or Program while recording starts or stops that file on the same clock.
- Starting with nothing chosen is refused.
The MultiCorder settings popover has the heading One file each, a Program switch, one switch per input (numbered, with its name), Format, Video, Audio, Folder, Status, Time and one row per file with its status. A file row shows "
The MultiCorder cog opens a flyout with the format, bitrate and folder, a switch for Program and one named Record <input name> on its own per input, and a line per file with its status and any dropped frames.
Snapshot
Snapshot saves the current Program frame as a PNG named Snapshot <time>.png, next to the open show file (or in the app's data folder when the show is not saved yet).
- macOS: the camera key in Overlays and Tools, or Snapshot in the Program monitor menu and the Studio menu. A note "Snapshot saved" confirms it.
- Windows: Snapshot of Program in the Tools bar.
The Outputs window

Besides Record, Stream and External, every place video leaves Studio is an output. An output has a name, a device, a source, a size in pixels, an On switch, a lock, and one or more slices: the parts of a picture it shows. The Outputs window lists the outputs, routes them, and maps their slices.
- Open it on macOS with the Outputs button in the Studio toolbar, Studio > Outputs..., or Outputs... in the NDI key's menu. On Windows use Outputs in the top bar.
- Three tabs at the top: Outputs, Router and Screens. The Screens tab holds your screens and canvases.
- Toolbar: Add Output (help "Add an NDI, Syphon, Blackmagic or Display output"), Test Card (help "Test Card on All Outputs"), Identify Displays, Snap, the pane layout (Side by Side, Stacked or One at a Time;
Command-1 to 3 on macOS) and Inspector (Option-Command-I). On the Router tab the Router sources list filters the matrix: All sources, Inputs or Scenes. - An empty window reads No Outputs: "An output sends Program, Preview, the Multiview or one input to an NDI sender or a display. Each one has its own setup."
Add an output and pick its device
Add Output lists the devices of this computer: Virtual Output, each display, NDI Output, Syphon Output (macOS), Spout Output (Windows) and each Blackmagic device. Each one opens the list of sources to start from.
- A device another output holds says "in use by
". Pick it anyway and it moves to this output; the other output becomes a Virtual Output. That is one undo step. - A Virtual Output has no device, so nothing leaves the computer. Its picture, slices and mapping included, can still be the source of another output's slice, a canvas region or a Multiview tile. A new output starts as a Virtual Output while only your main display is attached.
- A device your plan does not include reads "(Upgrade)..." and opens the upgrade page, for example Syphon Output (Upgrade)... or Blackmagic Output (Upgrade).... Without Blackmagic Desktop Video the Blackmagic entry stays off and says "Install Blackmagic Desktop Video to use Blackmagic devices.".
- Change an output's device later with Device in the inspector or in the output's right-click menu.
On the Screens tab, the menu of a screen or a canvas has Add Output too: the new output carries that screen or canvas at once.
The output list
The list on the left has one row per output: its icon, name, Source list, On switch and lock (help "Lock this output's source"). A locked output refuses a new source until you unlock it. Its slices sit under it.
- + under the list adds a slice to the selected output ("Add a slice to the selected output"), - removes the selected slice ("Remove the selected slice (an output keeps its last one)").
- Drag a slice onto another output to move it there.
- Right-click an output for Setup..., Turn On or Turn Off, Lock Source or Unlock Source, Device, Add Slice, and the items that duplicate, rename and remove it.
- Right-click a slice for the slice menu and Move to Output.
Source and Mapping
The middle of the window shows two panes, each over a live picture:
| Pane | What it shows | What you do there |
|---|---|---|
| Source | The picture the selected slice reads, with every slice of every output that reads it outlined. The selected slices are in the brand colour, and where two slices overlap the area is hatched | Choose which part of the picture each output shows |
| Mapping | The selected output's own picture, with each slice's corners on the output | Pin the slice onto the real screen: its corners, a warp grid, a polygon's points, the output masks |
In the Source pane:
- Click a slice to select it,
Shift-click to add one, drag on empty picture to sweep a box around several. A click on a slice that is already selected selects the one under it. - Drag a slice to move it. Hold
Shiftto keep to one axis. HoldOption(Windows:Alt) to drag a copy. - Drag a handle to resize. Hold
Shiftto keep the shape,Option(Windows:Ctrl) to resize from the centre. - Drag the knob on top of a slice to turn it. Hold
Shiftfor 45 degree steps. - On a polygon, drag a point to move it, double-click an edge to add one,
Option-click a point to remove it. - The arrow keys nudge the selection 1 px of its source,
Shift10 px.Deleteremoves it,Command-D duplicates it. - Under the pane, X, Y, W and H give the slice in px of its source, and Rotation in degrees. Type a number and press
Return. - The source list under the pane picks what the slice reads. It is grouped: Outputs (another output's finished picture), Program (Program, Clean Program, Preview, Portrait Program, Portrait Preview), Multiview, Screens, Canvases and Inputs. An output never reads itself, and a source that would loop back is not offered.
In the Mapping pane, the row under the picture picks what the handles edit: Corners, Grid, Out Points (a polygon's corners on the output) or one key per output mask. Drag a point to move it. The arrow keys nudge the selected point 1 px (Shift: 10 px). With a mask picked, click its edge to add a point and press Delete to remove one (three always stay).
Each drag, nudge or typed value is one undo step.
Snap, Grid, Hand and zoom
Each pane has a chip on top with three keys before its zoom keys. They light amber while on.
| Key | Help text | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Snap | "Snap to guides and edges" | A moved or resized slice snaps to every other slice on the same picture, on any output. Hold Command while you drag to skip it once (Windows: hold Space) |
| Grid | "Show the pixel grid. With Snap on, points snap to it." | Draws a pixel grid over the picture |
| Hand | "Drag to pan the view" | A plain drag pans the picture instead of editing |
Hold Space and drag to pan at any time, and scroll or pinch to zoom ("Hold Space and drag to pan. Scroll or pinch to zoom."). On Windows a middle-button drag pans too. Fit shows the whole picture; the chip reads the zoom in percent otherwise. Zoom and Hand belong to each pane. Snap is shared with the window toolbar.
The slice menu
Right-click a slice in the list, in Source or in Mapping:
- Place it: Center X, Center Y, Mirror X, Mirror Y.
- Give it an area: Left Half, Right Half, Top Half, Bottom Half, Whole Area.
- Shape it: Make Triangle, Make Circle, Match Output Shape (in Source) or Match Input Shape (in Mapping).
- Order it: Bring Forward, Send Backward.
- Then duplicate, delete, or Move to Output.
Each item is one undo step and acts on every selected slice. Add Slice, Add Triangle and Draw Polygon in the toolbar's add menu add a new slice to the selected output.
The inspector

The inspector on the right details the selected output, on the Outputs and Router tabs alike:
- Device, as in Add an output.
- Size: Match canvas, or Fixed (Windows: Fixed size) with W and H in px. Sides are even, with the same limits and Not Enough GPU Memory warning as a screen. A size taller than your plan allows is refused, and the refusal shows above the panes. A Display draws at its monitor's mode, so it shows its size and does not take a fixed one. A Blackmagic output picks Follows the source or one of the card's sizes. Under Match canvas the boxes show the size the output draws now.
- Projection: the rows in Projection.
Setup
Setup... (the gear in the inspector, or the output's menu; Windows: Set up) opens the output's setup:
| Setting | Choices |
|---|---|
| Name | The label in the list. |
| Target | Sender name (NDI and Spout), Server name (Syphon), the display, or the Blackmagic device. A Virtual Output has none. |
| Frame rate | Engine rate, Half, A third or A quarter (Windows spells out Half (every 2nd frame) and so on). A Blackmagic output plays every frame of the Studio's frame rate. |
| Alpha | NDI only: sends the transparent parts as transparent. |
| Reference | Blackmagic only: see Genlock. |
| Audio | NDI and Blackmagic: Off, Follows the source, Master, Headphones mix or any Group by name. Spout carries video only. |
The setup also holds the output's Projection rows. macOS closes it with Cancel or Done. On Windows it is a dialog with Apply and Remove Output; closing it changes nothing. A refusal shows at the top and the setup stays open.
Router

The Router tab puts the outputs down the side and the sources across the top: Program, Clean Program, Preview, Multiview, then every input, then each screen and canvas. Click a dot to route that output to that source. A locked row refuses clicks. Right-click a row's name for the same menu as in the list.
What a plan can refuse
Syphon and Spout need Syphon and Spout video sharing, Blackmagic needs Capture card outputs with key, a size taller than the plan's output height needs a larger plan, and showing Multiview needs Studio multiview output. The plan may also cap how many outputs run at once. See Plans and limits.
A Display output on a real display is left out of screen captures, so a screen input of the same display never films it. A Display output on a virtual screen is visible to a screen input or room share of that virtual screen.
Colour and HDR
Every output carries one colour standard: the one used for HD video. Program is shown in a vivid look by default, and the pro video options below need a plan that includes pro video. A locked option shows its lock. See Plans and limits.
Studio Format
Studio Format is in Settings, Video, with the Program rows. It sets Program's depth and colour, and 10-bit and HDR run up to 4K.
| Choice | What it is | Gamut |
|---|---|---|
| 8-bit SDR | The standard picture. | BT.709 |
| 10-bit SDR | A 10-bit picture. | BT.709 |
| HDR PQ | HDR with the PQ curve. | BT.2020 |
| HDR HLG | HDR with the HLG curve. | BT.2020 |
HDR inputs are tone mapped to look right on your outputs. On a Mac, Settings shows "Your plan allows up to {cap}p. Larger sizes need an upgrade." beside the size rows.
10-bit and 16-bit outputs
With a 10-bit or HDR Studio Format, a Blackmagic output sends 10-bit and NDI sends 16-bit. A 10-bit Program also gives HEVC a real 10-bit picture (Main10) for landscape HEVC at Program's full size.
Genlock
Genlock keeps Studio's frames in step with house sync. Feed the house reference into the Blackmagic card's reference input, then edit the Blackmagic output in the Outputs window: its setup shows how the card sees the reference.
| State | What it means |
|---|---|
| Locked | The card is locked to the reference signal. |
| Not Locked | The card is not locked to the reference signal. |
| No Reference Signal | Nothing arrives on the reference input, or nothing has arrived yet. |
| Not Supported | The card cannot lock to a reference. |
Turn on Reference Master to make the studio clock follow that output's reference. With it off on every output, the first locked output leads. Reference Master is a setting of the machine, not of the show: it changes at once and is never part of an output's unsaved edits.
| Badge | When |
|---|---|
| Clock Master | You turned on Reference Master for this output, and the clock follows it. |
| Clock Master (Auto) | No output is picked, and the clock follows this one as the first locked output. |
On a Mac the state, the badge and the switch sit in the output's Reference Master section, shown only for a Blackmagic output. On Windows the Reference row under the Blackmagic device row shows the state and, after a comma, the badge, with the Reference Master switch below. With no card, Windows says "No Blackmagic device is connected."
When a card loses lock, Studio warns at once:
| Notice | Text |
|---|---|
| Reference Lost | "A Blackmagic output lost its reference signal and runs on its own clock." |
| Reference Unlocked | "A Blackmagic output is no longer locked to its reference signal." |
While a card output is running, its card sets the frame rate, so Frame rate in Settings is locked and reads "A card output is running, so its card sets the frame rate. Stop it to change the machine rate."
Display modes
Cliqer reads each display and uses its native mode. When a Display output sends a different size from its monitor's native mode, a notice reads "{name} sends {raster}, but its monitor is {native}. Use the native mode for the sharpest picture." and Use native sets the size to the native mode. The notice is called Screen Not Native. It is one undo step and is free on every plan. A display that follows the screen shows no such notice. A display's details list Monitor, Native Mode, Rates and, when the display reports it, HDR.
Vivid colour
Vivid colour gives Program a punchy look. It is on by default and applies to Program and every bus that can reach air. Turn it off, or change Amount from 0 to 100 %, in Settings, Video, with the Program rows. On a Mac the Studio menu has a Vivid colour toggle too; on Windows it is a checked item in the menu bar.
Control the look over OSC too:
/cliqer/studio/vivid_colour 1
/cliqer/studio/vivid_amount 0.6
vivid_colour takes on, off or toggle; vivid_amount takes 0 to 1. Dragging Amount is one undo step.
Windows and macOS
On a Mac, displays plugged in or out while Cliqer is running are picked up. On Windows, screen outputs show wide colour when Program is set to a 10-bit or HDR Studio Format.
Projection
Projection shows one big picture across several outputs, for example a wide wall made of two or three projectors, or a curved screen. Each output shows its slices, you pin each slice onto the real screen in the Mapping pane, and Cliqer fades the overlap between neighbouring outputs (Edge Blend). It is on the Mac and on Windows.
Slices stretch to fill each output: "Slices stretch to fill each output. Set Program to the whole wall's size so nothing looks stretched." Set the size of Program, or of the source you project, to the size of the whole wall, not of one projector.
The Projection rows sit in the inspector under the output's size. On Windows the inspector is one card titled Projection of <output name>, with the output's rows on top:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Slice Map | A small picture of the source with each slice as a box. The same edits as the Source pane, with X, Y, W and H in px under it |
| Adjust on Output | On a display output: puts the handles on the output itself, so you line the picture up on the real screen. Handles picks Corners, Grid or the masks. Arrow keys nudge the picked point 1 px (Shift: 10 px), Return or Esc ends it. On other outputs the switch reads Alignment Grid and draws a grid and the overlap bands on the picture |
| Corners | The slice's four corners on the output (corner pin). A corner that would fold the picture stays where it was |
| Grid | A warp grid of points to bend the picture onto a curved or uneven screen. Columns and Rows set the grid, Curve is Linear or Bezier. On a Bezier grid each point has four handles; Smooth keeps the opposite handle in line, and Reset Handles puts them back ("This point's handles back to their automatic place") |
| Edge Blend | Fades the edge of this slice into its neighbour. A line under the curve says which edges fade, for example "Fades left 20 percent, top 5 percent". Until two slices overlap it says "No ramp yet: another output of the same source must overlap this slice with Edge blend on." |
| Gamma R, Gamma G, Gamma B, Power, Luminance | Shape the fade so the overlap matches the rest of the picture |
| Black level, Black zone | Lift the black of the part no neighbour overlaps, so the overlap, where two projectors add their black, does not show as a lighter band. The zone sets how far past each fade the lift reaches |
| Corner trims | The black level trim at each corner of the slice, for a projector whose black is lighter in one corner |
| Trim | Colour and brightness of this slice only, plus Flip Horizontal and Flip Vertical. Reset Trim goes "Back to flips off, gains 1, brightness 0, contrast 1" |
| Masks | Up to eight output masks of 3 to 32 points, each with Invert (cut a hole) and Feather. Add mask, Duplicate mask, Delete mask, Reset Masks |
| Mirror | Mirror Left-Right and Mirror Top-Bottom flip the whole output, for a rear-projection screen, a beam-splitter prompter or a confidence monitor |
The ellipsis menu in the Projection header (Projection actions) has Reset Slice, Reset Corners, Reset Edge Blend, Reset Trim, Reset Grid, Reset Masks and Reset Projection ("Reset the whole projection"). Each greys out when there is nothing to reset.
Presets saves your current outputs under a name, so you can bring a venue's setup back later. On macOS it is a menu in the Outputs window that shows the loaded preset's name; on Windows it is in the menu bar. It has Save Preset…, Load Preset, Import Preset…, Export Preset…, Delete Preset and Show Presets, which shows the preset files. On macOS Save Preset… saves over the loaded preset, or asks for a Preset Name when none is loaded, and Save As… always asks.
Test Card shows a test card on every output, and Identify Displays names each display on its own screen, so you can tell the projectors apart while you line them up.
Replay

Replay keeps the last seconds of Program on disk. You mark a clip with In and Out, save it as an input, or play the last seconds again at a slower speed on Preview or straight to Program. Studio 4K and up replay Program from one angle. More angles, Quad and a Default angle need the Replay add-on, included on Studio 8K and Enterprise. A locked control says "Needs the Replay add-on or a plan that includes it. Upgrade on cliqer.io.". Stopping the ring deletes it, and it shares Record's bitrates.
The Replay group of the bottom bar has the keys Replay (starts and stops the ring; right-click it or use the cog for settings), In, Out, Save (saves the marked clip as a media input; mark In first) and Play. The popover has:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Ring length | 5 to 300 seconds, in steps of 5. |
| Status, Disk, at most | "Recording the ring" while it runs, and the most disk it will use. |
| In, Out, Length, Saved clips | The marks ("Not set" until marked) and the number of saved clips. |
| Last | How many seconds Play shows again, 1 to 300. |
| Speed | 100%, 75%, 50% or 25%. |
| Show on | Preview or Program. |
Open the Replay panel from Panels. It has a Replay ring switch, a Ring length (5 to 300 seconds), Mark in, Mark out and Save, then Instant replay with the seconds to replay, a Replay speed list (100%, 75%, 50%, 25%), a Replay goes to list (To Preview, Straight to Program) and Play replay. Before the ring is on it says "Turn the replay ring on to mark, save and play.".
Angles, sound and events
Besides Program, each camera, caller, NDI, stream or Blackmagic input can keep its own ring: an angle. At most eight inputs have one. Every camera takes them all; turn it off to pick the inputs one by one. A change applies when the ring next starts.
- Sound. Each angle records the sound of its own input, next to its pictures, and Program's ring records Program's. Playing or saving an angle plays its own sound. An input with no sound has a silent angle. A quad plays the sound of the event's default angle only, and the other tiles are muted. Reverse is always silent.
- Marks. In opens an event at this instant on every angle, Out closes it. An auto mark makes an event of the last 5, 10 or 20 seconds, ending now. Add event makes one from typed In and Out times.
- Replay Events panel. On the Mac, the key beside the Replay keys ("Show or hide the Replay Events panel"), or Panels > Replay Events. On Windows, Replay Events in Panels. It lists the events, with a tag filter above them. The selected event has a Name, its In and Out points, a Default angle (the angle a quad or a single play shows first), Tags and notes, with a comment for each angle. Duplicate copies an event and Delete removes it.
- Transport. Preview or Program plays the selected event there, at the Speed (100%, 75%, 50% or 25%) and Direction (Forward or Reverse) you chose. Step one frame either way, Stop goes back to the In point. Quad plays the next event as a picture of up to four of its angles. Save makes the event a media input. Play last replays the last seconds of Program.
- Undo. Adding, deleting, renaming, trimming, duplicating and tagging an event are undo steps. Marks, selecting and playing are not.
Events are stored beside the show. When you mark an event, Studio keeps its pictures and sound in a Replay folder inside the show's folder, so the event stays after the ring is stopped or Studio is closed. The list of events is saved at once in that folder as well: marking or editing an event does not mark the show as unsaved, and you do not need to save the show to keep it. Copy the whole show folder to take the events along. Studio never deletes an event's files by itself: delete the event, and its files go when nothing can undo it any more. There is no size limit for events. When the show's disk is nearly full the notice Replay Disk Almost Full says about how many minutes are left, and the ring keeps running. If an event's files are gone, it shows Unavailable, and the notice Replay Expired asks you to delete it or mark a new one.
