Screen Sharing

Share a display, the Studio Program or an NDI source with the whole room or with one presenter, with sound, and what each platform needs to allow it.

Sharing sends what is on your screen to the people in your room, live. Share to everyone, or give one presenter a different source from the rest.

What you can share

SourceWhat it is
DisplayA whole screen, with a live preview.
ProgramThe mix from the Studio. Listed only when the Studio has inputs.
NDI sourceAny NDI source on your network. Listed while the picker is open.
Virtual ScreenAn extra screen Cliqer adds to your computer, with nothing else on it. See Virtual screen.

Windows of other apps are not listed. Cliqer's own windows stay out of every share, NDI feed and recording while Hide Cliqer from screen sharing is on in Settings > General.

Start a share

  • Room > Start Sharing… (Control-Command-S). While sharing the same item reads Stop Sharing.
  • In Split View, the Room page toolbar: Share, which becomes Stop Sharing. Share Other Source lists NDI sources and Virtual Display.
  • A presenter's Screen icon. If nothing is shared yet, it opens the picker for that presenter.
  • Settings > Presenters > Sharing > Share to everyone: turning it on opens the picker, and what you pick goes to the whole room, including people who join later.

The Share Screen picker

The picker reads "Choose what the room sees", or "Choose what (name) sees" when you opened it for one presenter. It is one grid of tiles, each with a live picture or an icon and a name:

  • Displays: every screen. On macOS the live previews need Screen Recording.
  • Program: the Studio mix.
  • NDI sources: one tile per source, with a live thumbnail once Cliqer has connected to it.
  • Virtual Screen: shown while you have no virtual screen. Click it to add one.

A LIVE badge marks sources already shared, and In Studio a display the Studio already captures. Use the arrow keys to move, Return to share and Esc to close: "Arrows to choose, Return to share, Esc to close". On Windows, if the screens cannot be listed, the window says "Cannot list your screens:" with the reason.

Virtual screen

A virtual screen is an extra display that Cliqer adds to your computer. Your computer treats it as a real screen: move windows or slides onto it and share it, while your own screens stay private. It stays until you remove it or quit Cliqer. When one is added, Cliqer says Virtual Screen Added, with its size and how to remove it.

  • Add: the Virtual Screen tile in the picker, or the virtual screen button at the top of the Classic panel. On macOS, right-click the tile to pick its size: 1280 x 720, 1920 x 1080, 2560 x 1440 or 3840 x 2160. In Split View, also Share Other Source > Virtual Display. In the Windows Classic layout, the banner has Add a virtual screen.
  • Windows asks first: the virtual screen comes from a display driver, so Windows asks to let Cliqer make changes (a User Account Control prompt). Choose Yes; with No no screen is added.
  • Use: it appears in your display settings like any other screen.
  • Share: pick it in the picker like any display, for the whole room or for one presenter.
  • Remove: the virtual screen button at the top of the Classic panel (Windows: Remove the virtual screens in the banner), or quit Cliqer.

A Studio output shown on a virtual screen is visible to a share of that virtual screen. On every real display, output windows stay out of every capture.

One source per presenter

Each presenter's Screen icon controls what that person receives. Turning it on gives them what the room already watches. Its list changes the source for that presenter alone, and More sources... opens the picker for them. Turning it off ends their share only. Stop Sharing ends every share. How many sources a room can watch at once depends on your plan. See Presenters and chat.

Sound from the Studio comes from its own mixer. Program size, frame rate and bitrate are in Settings > Video, because they set all of the Studio, not only the share.

Permissions

Sharing needs Screen Recording. Without it the picker shows no live previews, says "Allow Screen Recording for live previews of your screens." with Open Permissions, and a share attempt raises Screen Recording Is Off. macOS applies the permission only to a new launch, so Cliqer offers Quit and Reopen. Sharing your microphone needs Microphone. See Permissions.

When a share fails

Sharing Failed means sharing could not start. Screen Capture Failed means the screen could not be captured; press Retry to try again. Virtual Screen Not Created means the virtual screen could not be added.
