Stage (Beta)
Stage (Beta) is a 3D window for Studio. You bring in a model of the venue, place screens, projectors and cameras in it, and your outputs play live on them, so you can see how a show will look in the room before you are there.

Command. Where Windows differs it says so, and Windows and macOS lists every difference.Open Stage (Beta)
In the Studio toolbar, choose Stage (Beta). It has a cube icon, and its tooltip reads "Stage: meshes, surfaces, projectors and cameras". Stage opens in its own window, so you can keep it beside the Studio window.
On Windows the same Stage (Beta) key is in the Studio toolbar.
The toolbar
Left to right, the Stage (Beta) toolbar holds:
- The gizmo keys Move, Rotate and Scale, each with its key in the tooltip, and the gizmo space: "Gizmo axes follow the world or the object".
- Snap: "Snapping (hold Shift while dragging)".
- The amount box: "Type an amount and press Return: it moves, rotates or scales the hovered or grabbed handle's axis, or all axes".
- Four Views,
F5. - The Draft capsule and Take.
- Managers: shows or hides the Object Manager and Attributes (
Option-Command-I). Not on Windows yet; useCtrl+Alt+I there. - The close key: "Save the show and close the Stage window to free its memory".
Draft and Take
Edits you make in Stage (Beta) wait as a Draft. A Draft capsule shows in the toolbar while a draft is waiting. Choose Take to make the draft the stage in force. Every edit is one undo step.
Import a venue model
Import a 3D model of your venue from the outliner. Stage (Beta) reads glb and obj files.
- You can choose several files at once.
- A progress bar shows the import stages: Reading, Parsing and Writing.
- Cancel ends the import and removes the file it was writing.
- The model is kept in the show's Library as a model, and the import is a step you can undo.
Stage (Beta) stops a model file larger than 1 GiB and tells you with the message Model too large.
Screens, projectors and cameras
The room holds the items you place in it: screens, projectors and cameras. The outliner lists them, and you can drag one onto another to move it under it. Select an item in the outliner or click it in the viewport to see its settings in the inspector. Shift-click a row to select every row from the last one you clicked.
Stage (Beta) plays your outputs live on the screens and projectors in the room. See Screens and mix and Outputs.
Tag a surface
A surface on the venue model can show a picture. Select the object and set Kind in the inspector to one of:
- None
- LED: an LED screen.
- Projection: a surface a projector throws onto. You can also use Tag as Projection Surface in the outliner menu.
Then choose a Source for the surface: None, or one of your inputs. A surface plays the picture of the input you choose. In the outliner, a tagged surface carries a tooltip: "LED surface: show its source and mapping" or "Projection surface: show its source and mapping".
You can also drop an input from the Library onto an object in the viewport to play it there (Mac). The object under the drop is selected and takes the input as its source.
Mapping
The Mapping group sets how the picture lies on the surface:
| Setting | Choices |
|---|---|
| UV | Mesh uses the model's own mapping. Planar projects the picture flat onto the surface. |
| Faces | Both, Front or Back: which side of the surface shows the picture. |
| Rotate | Shows the angle in degrees (0, 90, 180 or 270). The Rotate 90° button turns it a quarter turn. |
| Flip | Horizontal and Vertical buttons. |
| Crop | Reset, then Crop Origin (X, Y) and Crop Size (W, H), each from 0 to 1. |
Select several items and the inspector edits them all at once, not only surfaces. Each surface keeps its own mapping, a setting that differs between them reads Mixed, and the whole edit is one undo step.
Lighting
The Stage Look section of the inspector sets how the room is lit:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Exposure | Brightness of the view, in EV, from -10 to 10. |
| Tone Map | ACES or Off. |
| Shadows | Off, Low or High. |
| Sky | None, or the sky the stage uses for its light. |
| Ambient Occlusion | Toggle. Darkens creases and corners where light would not reach. |
| LED Light | Toggle. LED surfaces light the room around them. |
Each light also has a Cast Shadows toggle in the inspector.

Views and cameras

Press F5, or choose Four Views in the toolbar, to see four views at once. Each pane keeps its own view.
Clean Up Mesh
A dense model can make Stage (Beta) slow. Clean Up Mesh simplifies a mesh. Open it from the inspector or the outliner with one mesh selected. In the sheet:
- Weld vertices joins points that sit in the same place.
- Keep is a slider from 1% to 100% of the triangles. It shows how many triangles stay, for example "50%, 5,000 of 10,000 triangles".
Choose Clean Up to run it, or Cancel. The work shows in the work bar, and the clean-up is one undo step.
Resize the panes
The dividers between the viewport and the side columns can be dragged to resize them. Show or hide the Object Manager and Attributes column with the Managers button in the toolbar, or with Option-Command-I.
Full screen
On the Mac the Stage (Beta) window can go full screen. On Windows it can be resized and maximised.
Notices
| Notice | Text |
|---|---|
| Model too large | "This model file is too large for the stage. Simplify it or export a smaller file and import again." |
| Model can't be read | "Cliqer reads glb and obj models. This file could not be read." |
| Model missing | "A stage model was not found next to the show. Locate it to show it again." |
| Can't map a projector | "A surface can show an input, a screen or a canvas, not a projector." |
| Import cancelled | "The model was not added. The stage is as it was." |
| Stage busy | "A model is importing or a mesh is cleaning up. Wait for it to finish or cancel it, then try again." |
A surface cannot show a projector's picture, because the projector sees the stage and the picture would loop.
Control Stage (Beta) over OSC
A show controller can build and change the stage with External Control actions: import, map, add a projector, camera or light, rename, duplicate, delete, group, ungroup, hide, lock, tag, the look, Clean Up Mesh and Take. For example:
/cliqer/studio/stage_take
See External Control for every action, the ports and argument rules.
Plans and locks
Stage (Beta) is in the Studio 8K and Enterprise plans, and in the Free trial. On those plans a show can hold up to 16 projectors. The Stage (Beta) button is always there. On a plan without Stage, the action you try is refused and an upgrade notice with an Upgrade button appears. See Plans and limits.
Windows and macOS
Stage (Beta) does the same on both: import, lighting, surfaces and mapping, views and cameras, and Clean Up Mesh. What differs:
| Feature | macOS | Windows |
|---|---|---|
| Open Stage (Beta) | The Stage (Beta) button in the Studio toolbar | The Stage (Beta) key in the Studio toolbar |
| Full screen | The Stage (Beta) window can go full screen | The window can be resized and maximised |
| Smart zoom | Two-finger double-tap frames the selection | Not on Windows yet. |
| Four views dividers | Drag to resize | Fixed, not draggable. Not on Windows yet. |
| Duplicate, group, ungroup | Command-D, Command-G, Command-Shift-G | Ctrl+D, Ctrl+G, Ctrl+Shift+G |
| Show or hide the managers | Option-Command-I | Ctrl+Alt+I |
| Rename an item in the outliner | Return, double-click, or Rename in the item menu | F2, Enter, a second click on the selected row, or Rename in the right-click menu. Enter or a click elsewhere keeps the name, Esc puts the old one back |
| Delete | Delete, Backspace or Forward Delete | Delete |
